The Intersection of Writing and The Internets

RP Boot Camp?

OH MY BROTHERS I have had a grand INSPIRATION. (apologies for the caps)

RP BOOT CAMP

So.  I was talking to A, a fellow mod about a problem player she’s dealing with right now - your typical immature male player.  His writing wasn’t *too* terrible from what I could tell, but he was a speechifyer, and over-talked at times when it wasn’t really appropriate and when it would have been better jugement to leave off for interruption and so on.  She was going to kick him off the board, and chastise him in public - but since she wants more activity I advised her to just give him a private talking-to and hand him over to me for some BOOT CAMP.

And then..
the IDEA was born.

BOOT CAMP. Dealing with writing, avoiding Sue-isms, a crash-course in grammar, rp etiquette, a heavy intensive in writing chemistry and mood sensitivity, style flexibility, jump-starting, EVERYTHING! Everything to take a crap are-pee-err to a Victorious lever cofic writer that could keep up with the likes of Valentine or our Illustrious Monarch.  OH MY. And Oh my brothers, it’s gotten into this little Pixie’s head and will not let go.

Coming Soon: Catching Lightning in a Net

Hello everyone, my name is Jathi and I’ve been tapped by a certain pixie to present a series of articles on the intersection of Technology and World Building. I hope to start with the basic tools of the online trade, and then move on to more world-building specific articles.

I currently work on a world setting called “disUrbe,” a near future earth dark urban fantasy setting for a RPG system and several novels in progress. Along with my friend I’ve collaborated on massive amounts of world info.*

Anyways, tune in this Sunday for my first article.

Moving On

There’ve been a lot of things happening lately, as anyone who’s been in the loop of the Victorious/Clockabye community knows.  Good things and not so good, and many of us haven’t had a lot of time to devote to the stories we’re devoted to.  This has led to some depressing dead time on the board, but that’s in turn led to some changes that I’m pretty sure (and I hope you’ll agree) are for the better.

Very soon, the Victorious will be moving over the the Clockwork  Lullabye board (originally known as mini-settings board - ha!) to join the other games in it’s timeline. It’s actually surprising this didn’t happen sooner!  After all, why have three games for a timeline on one board, and their older sibling on another?  All active threads will be transferred over, of course, as will all active characters and reference pages.  The rest will be left readable by everyone.

Is this the only change?  Nope!  The Victorious livejournal community will change to become the comm for all of the Clockabye worlds, of course, but likely keep the same name for everyone’s ease.  And this blog will widen in scope as well, but how is up to all of you.   I’ve been thinking about making it a general resource about the way fiction is changing on the web.  Flash, fan, erotic and collaborative fiction all existed before the internet, but the internet gave them new life and more readership and appeal than ever before.  And collaborative fiction, especially, in the baby-form of text roleplay is very much  an internet creature.  If anyone has suggestions of possible writers to contribute on this subject, I’d love to hear about them.  And as always, your suggestions and thoughts are eagerly welcomed.

Hey everybody!

Ok finally some updates for the Fractured! Thanks a lot to everybody who’s been waiting like aaaages for me to get my ass in gear. I will add some more stuff I promise. For right now there is a list of characters, a bunch of things/jobs or whatever that people can play, a set of rules, and a slightly new character sheet. There’s also a little something about the society and all that. I’ll put up some more stuff when I think of it but for now I guess just look over what I have so far! Also let me know if any of the posts are in the wrong place and you think I should move them or any changes I should make and all that! Ok! Thanks for reading and btw thanks to everybody for playin my game! <3

begin transmission…

Alrighty, well partially, I’m just checking out this here blog to see how it works. I think that the blog might be a good place to post general news maybe? We’ll see I suppose.

I’ve gone ahead and approved all pending characters for Steampulp and the Baroque. I used crappy buttons that I made myself for this purpose, and if anyone design-inclined would care to make me fancy pants buttons, please feel free! ^^

There is at least one character who I’m waiting on a secret sheet from. I haven’t locked the sheets yet, so if anyone needs to do any minor edits, go ahead. As of now, we’ve had very few problems with characters. This is a Good Thing.

Basically, I’m approving all characters based on the arrangements made. If I haven’t asked you for more information, assume that you’re approved. If I have, take your time getting it together. Obviously, we aren’t quite ready to start yet. Thanks everybody for some awesome characters. I CAN’T WAIT TO START PLAYING!!!

Character Call!

Allright! All of you dragging your heels on getting you character profiles up? Time to get on it! *cracks the whip*

If you need help, the staff of both this board and the Vic will help you, I’m sure! Just email one of us and ask. I know that sometimes character sheets can be hard…I’ve written enough of them! (and no, I’m not writing yours for you…well, not unless you ask reeeeally nicely. And send biscuits.) But often just getting the words down is the really important part! After that, more and more with come out in the edits. So give it a good heave and see what happens!

To those of you that are friends of someone who’s procrastinating, pester them a little! Not too much, of course, we don’t want to be annoying about it! But sometimes (often…?) people just need a little nudge. I know I’m that way…

To help out, I’ve scoured all three wikis (linked to the side) and amassed a list of characters that don’t have sheets up yet! A few belong to multiple offender…you know who you are! So let’s see those sheets get up, people! The sooner there are some characters up, the sooner the board will be opened for play!

Characters without sheets for…

Baroque:

  • Madlan Goring
  • Deborah Arch
  • Jon Avery
  • Ingénie du Coulmier
  • Claypole
  • Emmhalyn
  • Mike Simms
  • Brian Simms
  • Kürten
  • Lissa Jimms
  • Muirgheal
  • Mrs. Copeland
  • Doña Isela
  • Ida Derval
  • Jemmy the Mute
  • Jim Holly

Steampulp: (I don’t really have a good character list for this one…)

  • Avery Worthe
  • John Starks
  • Charles Bromley
  • Earnest Jacoby
  • Honour Townsend
  • Anton Baxter(?)
  • ‘Codename: ‘Tower’
  • Antony and Renee

Fractured:

  • Maddox
  • Bébhinn
  • Raisa
  • Dir
  • Clock
  • Stan
  • RGB
  • Nika
  • Hannah
  • Matt
  • Dorian
  • Mallow
  • Ashe
  • Sam
  • Sophie

*phew* there! And please do let me know if there’s anyone I’ve missed!

Small Update

Just so everyone knows, I’ve created the Settings Staff on this blog and made all you guys contributors…so you can post to this here blog as much as you like!  I’m working on a way to get this actually on the site, but I need to get the help of someone more geeky than I.  I am only a baby geeklet…

I’ll post your staff passwords in the Staff board on the forum, so go and look there!  See you!

Also, get up your ‘Welcome’ mats, or at least some sort of placeholder.  A link to a wiki is good, if you have one…at some point I’ll be making a wiki for all the itsy settings.  Jack’s given permission for the Vic character sheet to be used until you get around to making your own, if you want to make a new one at all.

Open!

Hallo to all new Clockwork Lullabye members and followers! See no undue ego in that…I simply mean ‘anyone reading this’. As you may have noticed, we’re *very* pleased to announce and make public the new Clockwork Lullabye board and community for Collaborative Fiction.

Of course, in time it would be really neat to do all sorts of shiney showing-off stuff…let people use openID, get some social bookmarking links up, have a little scrolling box of new threads and such…but that will depend on me making friends with a few new geeks! For now, anyone who wants one can have a Jabber id and an email @clockworklullabye.com, and of course an account (or five…) on the CF board. Rules for play will be up for the board as a whole very soon, and for the settings as soon as their respective developers get them done! Please do tell all your friends, and link to us wherever you may like!

And, of course, anyone who would like to show off and get muffin points by doing geeky stuff and/or graphics is more than welcome and will be amply rewarded with cake/art/linkage/kisses/not dying.

Welcome to our Clockwork Lullabye. Do enjoy the show.

Hello world!

Welcome to Clockwork Lullabye! This is our first post, short and sweet to relieve the terrible, terrible pressure of thinking up something clever to write.
